Getting out of your head and into the workout: 5 ways to overcome your stress and get in the gym

Updated: May 13, 2023

It's coming up to the end of a long old month and it’s always around this time where stress just completely takes over. Whether it work deadlines, last-minute events before that holiday, or going up to see your family what feels like the tenth time this year, juggling everything just does take it out of you. If you want to gain more control over your stress then this post is one you want to read, save, and share.

Developing a plan

Often stress comes from situations where you need to think and act quickly. Getting a clear plan of action for whatever situation comes up takes the guessing and impulse out of the outcome.

Seek out a new skill

When setbacks and disappointments appear, stress becomes the go-to emotion for most. Learning a new skill gives you an opportunity to view setbacks as a chance for learning and growth which can then be transferred to everyday situations

Surround yourself with support

When times get tough lean on people. Most importantly, acknowledging and importantly seeking individuals which provide you with different types of support is great for situations which need specific help and advice.

Stick to your routines

Whether it's regular meals, coffee breaks, or workouts, scheduling routines provide you structure around your day. This consistency helps you get into a working rhythm to be able to tackle stressful situations which may just pop out of anywhere

Be positive, don't catastrophise

In stressful situations, it's easy to think of those worst-case scenarios. We all do it to prepare if those situations come up. Instead of preparing us, this puts us under unnecessary pressure. Ackowledge that these thinking patterns do come up but challenge and limit superlatives or extreme thinking (e.g. ‘Always happens’, ‘The worst ever’, ‘I can’t cope’)

It's nearly the end of such a stressful month so hang in there and keep that head up! I hope these tips help you to keep in control of your stress and as always comment on what ways you deal with stress when its a bit too much!
